Lara Willard

editor-lara Hailing from the arid highlands of Colorado, I have an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University. I specialize in editing graphic novels, but I also love genre benders, coffee-table books, and smart, geeky fiction. If assigning a genre for your novel was like shoving an octopus into a pair of tights, I’ll probably like it. My favorite books have an immersive story, a compelling or funny voice, or illustrations. BOOKS Adult: Birds of California by Katie Cotugno, Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, and anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid or Emily HenryYA: Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough, A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro, Fire Keeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley

MG: A Kind of Spark by Elle McNicoll, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin, Holes by Louis Sachar

Picture Books: Mr. Tiger Goes Wild, anything by Brian Floca, Bob Shea, Shawn Harris, Anoosha Syed, or Dashka Slater. Didactic and rhyming picture books are not my cup of tea.

Comics: I like pretty much anything as long as it doesn’t include disposable women, self harm, or graphic sex. My favorite creators are Gene Luen Yang, N.D. Stevenson, Mariko Tamaki, Ananth Hirsh and Yuko Ota, Lucy Knisley, and Emma Hunsinger. I do not love Blankets or The Sculptor or long-form memoirish comics about sad dudes.

MOVIES

(500) Days of Summer, Casablanca, The Princess Bride, The Young Victoria, Slumdog Millionaire, Inside Out

TV

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hawkeye, Agent Carter, Veronica Mars, and murder-of-the-week mystery series.
For kids: Bluey, Odd Squad, Teen Titans Go!

Kyra Nelson

editor-kyra I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2014 with a degree in English language and minors in English and editing. Since then, I’ve interned for literary agent Amy Jameson, completed an MA program in linguistics at BYU, and started a PhD program at Northern Arizona University. I’ve never struggled with owning too many books, but have struggled with owning too few bookshelves. Read more

Elizabeth Buege

editor-elizabeth I like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens well enough, but if you ask me about my favorite things, I’ll probably mention beautiful words, magical stories, and the scent of fresh paper. I have a B.A. in English but blame the true breadth of my reading experience on a lifelong diet of science fiction, fantasy, and historical novels mixed with a healthy side of memoir, religious fiction, and biography. Length, genre, and age category rarely scare me off; the two things I look for when sitting down to read or edit are believable characters and an engaging story. Read more

Kaleigh Walter

editor-kaleigh Reader, writer, and Academy Award enthusiast, I enjoy staying indoors, the occasional sunshine-filled afternoon, and dreaming about Paris (the city…not the socialite). Some of my closest friends live in the pages of fiction. But don’t worry, I have friends IRL, too. We eat food together and laugh over glasses of red wine. Read more
