Welcome to MS Edits! I’m excited to join the rest of the team to share thoughts and advice on a variety of writing and editing topics in the coming weeks. To kick things off, though, I want to take a minute to introduce myself.
I’m a Midwest girl with a B.A. in English, a heart for stories, and an obsession with words. I’m learning to tell my own stories, but it’s just as important to me to step into my editing shoes and help other authors tell theirs. Like my bio says, I grew up on a wide range of fiction and nonfiction. While I’ve found something I love in more than a few genres, I’ve always gravitated toward character-rich science fiction and fantasy novels as well as inspiring memoirs and autobiographies.
I try my best to keep my shelves organized, but it’s hopeless—there’s no room for my new Haruki Murakami novels next to my worn-out copy of Spindle’s End by Robin McKinley or my Orson Scott Card collection. Besides, I need to save room for the final book in Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles (if he ever finishes his revisions!). I could try the next shelf up, but that one is also full. It’s simply stuffed with books that make me laugh, cry, and think, like Addie Zierman’s When We Were on Fire and N.D. Wilson’s Notes from the Tilt-a-Whirl. Maybe Murakami won’t mind slipping in next to my old Chronicles of Narnia set.
In the end, my shelves stay wild and free, and maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Do you have a book underway that deserves to make it into the mix? I’d love to read that manuscript and help you shape your words into the story you’re longing to tell. If you’re writing a novel, I’ll take a look and help you with a detailed critique, thorough copyediting, or careful proofreading. If you have a real-life story you’re struggling to put on paper, I would be honored to walk through that process with you and shape it into a focused, honest memoir that brings your voice and story to life.
Even if you’re not sure yet what you’re looking for, drop me a line! I would love to chat about what you’re writing and what I’m reading. You can reach me at contact(at)elizabethbuege.com or on Twitter at @ekbuege.
Happy writing!
